HEALTH INSURANCE
FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
According to the Immigration Department, as an international student, you must have Foreign Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your studies, this also includes your dependents (for example, spouses and children under 18 years of age).
Coverage includes doctor visits, some hospital treatments, ambulance coverage, and limited pharmaceuticals (drugs). OSHC insurers can provide a range of different OSHC products. These can range from a basic product that covers only the mandatory minimum services to comprehensive products that cover, in addition to the mandatory minimum services, the additional services specified in the policy.

It is important that you consider that the Department of Health provides explanatory guidelines on what each insurer includes and how it works. Each OSHC does not pay for general treatment or supplemental coverage, such as dental, optical, or physical therapy. If you need coverage for these treatments, you must contact your insurer to include it in your policy (there may be an additional cost) or you can contract the medical service with a private health insurer.
Below, you can find information on registered insurers that can offer medical insurance to international students.
