• WHAT KIND OF VISA DO I NEED TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA?

The ideal visa to study for a long period in Australia is the student visa (visa 500). However, also with other visas you can study a maximum of 3 months, these are: tourist visa and Work and Holiday visa.
You must take into account that only with the student visa you are allowed to work 20 hours per week and that the country you come from will always depend on the access you have to each of the visas that Australia offers.

At a minimum, all students applying for a visa outside of Australia will be required to provide:

– Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
– Biographical page of the passport
– Statement from the GTE (Genuine Temporary Entry) and supporting evidence (generally includes employment, educational and financial evidence).

Some students will need:
– Evidence of financial solvency and access to funds.
– Evidence of command of English.
– Evidence of adequate provisions for the welfare of the minor in Australia, parental consent and documentation of – custody (for applicants under 18 years)
– Form 956 or 956A
– Medical exams
– Biometrics

The Genuine Temporary Entry (GTE) requirement is used to ensure that the student visa program is used as intended. It consists of writing a letter where you explain the reasons why you want to study in Australia, why you have chosen the course you will study and how it will be useful in developing your professional profile in your country of origin, because you have chosen to study it in Australia and not in your country. Australia is a country that carefully studies each case and seeks that the applicants of any visa are genuine applicants.

• HOW MUCH MONEY DO I NEED TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA?

As part of the requirements in the student visa application, the immigration department requests that the applicant have the necessary funds to support himself and his dependents during the total period of stay in Australia. If the document checklist indicates that evidence of financial capacity must be provided, the applicant must attach this evidence at the time of applying for their visa. • WHO CAN FINANCIALLY SUPPORT ME TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA?

The person (s) who will be your sponsors are people who will help you financially and can only be parents and a partner. The Department of Immigration takes into account your relationship with your sponsor, your financial circumstances and assesses the possibility that you can actually access the funds during your stay in Australia.

• CAN I WORK IN AUSTRALIA?

Of course! You can work in Australia as long as you have a valid visa and that it allows it. The student visa is one of them, where you are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during the school period and up to 40 hours per week during the vacation period!

• WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR TO ARRIVE IN AUSTRALIA?

Any time you want to travel is the best option! Australia has different seasons as you can find rainforests in the north, snow-capped mountains in the southeast and huge deserts in the center.
Just make sure of the climate of the state you want to get to, as it will depend on that choice. Keep in mind that the further north you go, the higher the temperature will be.

• WHAT PLUG AND VOLTAGE IS USED IN AUSTRALIA?

In Australia the plugs and sockets are Type I, this plug has two flat V-shaped pins and a grounding pin. If you live in Argentina, China, Uruguay and some Pacific islands, you can use the same plugs that you have at home. Otherwise, you will need a travel adapter.

The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. • HOW DO I GET AN AUSTRALIAN COMPANY SIM CARD FOR MY PHONE?

Around Australia you can find different companies that offer this service. The most common are Amaysim, Vodafone, Optus, Telestra and Leabra. All these companies have a prepayment option and an option for you to contract a plan. Vodafone and Optus are companies that are used the most by students. Telestra is the one with the best coverage however it is the most expensive.

There are many places where you can buy your SIM card. The costs can range from $ 10 AUD to $ 60 AUD, depending on the option you choose, as well as the company.

You can continue using the SIM of your country for applications such as whats pp. However, for calls within Australia you will need an Australian number.

• WHAT HAPPENS TO MY APPLICATION FOR A STUDENT VISA THAT HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY COVID-19?

• I WAS GRANTED A STUDENT VISA BUT DUE TO COVID-19 I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO COMPLETE MY STUDIES. WILL I BE ABLE TO GET A REFUND OF THE VISA APPLICATION FEE OR REQUEST IT AGAIN FREE OF CHARGE?

Refunds are only granted in very limited circumstances. Even if you are not eligible for a refund, you may be eligible for the Visa Application Charge (VAC) waiver for a new student visa.

An exemption from paying the VAC will be given to those students who satisfy all of the following requirements:
– Have had a valid student visa on or after February 1, 2020;
– Make an online visa application after 05 August 2020;
– The student was unable to finish their studies within the validity period of their original visa due to COVID-19; and
– The student includes a Form 1545 COVID-19 Impacted Student (PDF – 228 KB) signed by their school when making their request.
